Rivard Descendents might want to read "Nicolas Rivard, Sieur de LaVigne, Captain of Militia" by Andre Dufresne

The first of two books in English by Andre Dufresne, "Nicolas Rivard, Sieur de LaVigne, Captain of Militia" chronicles the life of the first Rivard to come from Perche, France to New France. It also tells of Nicolas' younger brother, Robert Rivard, dit Loranger, who also settled in New France.
The second book, "The Rivard Family, Taking Root" begins where the first book left off. Both books are excellent reading and show how life was in the earliest days of Quebec.
